In a randomized controlled trial, adding deliberate social-skills rehearsal to therapy left 67% of participants no longer meeting the criteria for social anxiety disorder, beating exposure alone. Doing the reps changed more than understanding the problem did.
It is tempting to believe insight is the cure: understand why you freeze and the freezing stops. This trial says otherwise. The group that practiced the actual behavior, not just discussed it, pulled clearly ahead, with two-thirds crossing out of the diagnosis entirely.
The lesson is uncomfortable and freeing at once. You do not have a knowledge problem. You have a reps problem. The path forward is not another article, it is structured practice of the thing itself, which is why a private place to run those reps matters so much.
